River Cottage Wedding
Here in the South west we are lucky enough to have a whole heap of great venues to hold your wedding at. From beaches to barns, there is pretty much something for everyone.
This it the first in a series of blog posts that i’ll be doing just to show you how cool some of these venues are, first up in the series is River Cottage. River cottage is a place that a lot of you will be aware of outside of looking at wedding venues, It is of course home to the TV series Escape to River Cottage that was shown on Channel 4. In the show TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall left London to pursue an ambition of self-sufficiency.
Its a 17th-century farmhouse, with converted barns and its set in a whopping 66 acres, making it the perfect setting for weddings. As well as this, River Cottage offers dining experiences, cookery courses and courses on a huge variety of skills that include bee-keeping, breadmaking, cheese-making, foraging and more.
River Cottage is tucked in a valley just inside East Devon on the Devon/Dorset border between picturesque harbour town of Lyme Regis and the market town of Axminster. Set to a back drop of rolling green hills and stunning sunsets, all within a few minutes drive of the stunning Jurassic Coast. With exclusive use for weddings, guests are free to explore the working farm at their leisure.
With three different spaces available, there are a few options for having a River Cottage wedding. First up there is The Threshing Barn, recently renovated and oozing rustic charm, its the perfect place for your wedding breakfast. On those warmer summer days, the Yurt, complete with the decking area is also available. And to be honest, who doesn’t like the sound of tucking into some awesome food whilst having a beer and chilling out in a yurt. And thats before we have even mentioned the iconic farmhouse, which is perfect for those smaller ceremonies. The Walled Garden is a stunning setting for an outdoor ceremony, and a great place for your family and friends to kick back and relax, whilst having a drink and listening to some live music.
One of the good things for me is the fact that River Cottage is a stones throw away, I can pretty much walk there..
